WHY DO I NEED TO

SWEEP

MY CHIMNEY

At Rotasure we have experience in providing chimney sweeping services for both residential and commercial customers. We use the very latest in chimney sweeping technology leaving your chimney and home perfectly clean.

Peace of Mind

When it comes to relaxing in front of an open fire or wood burning stove, there is nothing more satisfying than knowing that you've taken every precaution to ensure it's safe to use.

Safety

Keeping a chimney clean is one of the most important things you can do to ensure that dangerous combustion gases can escape quickly and freely.

£

Money Saving

Cleaning your chimney regularly reduces the chances of dangerous chimney fires and increases its efficiency, saving you money in the long run.

Home Insurance

Many home insurers stipulate that if your burn solid fuel then you are required to sweep your chimney in accordance with recommended advice. We issue an insurance approved certificate after each sweep.

CHIMNEY
SWEEPING

At Rotasure we use both traditional and rotary powered sweeping methods. Depending on your chimney structure we will assess and decide on the best method that suits your individual situation. For example, older properties with open fires without a flue liner are best cleaned using the tradition rod and brush method to ensure the integrity of the mortar in the flue isn’t compromised. Whereas a log burner with a stainless-steel flue liner is much better suited to the rotary power sweeping method.

HOW WE
AVOID MESS

SEALED - SWEPT - TIDIED

For some, the first thought that comes to mind when chimney sweeping is mentioned is the mess. They aren’t wrong when you think about all the soot, dust, and rubbish that gets stuck in the chimney, however, this common misconception is one of many reasons why you should choose a qualified chimney sweep to do the job.

WHY CHOOSE US FOR YOUR

CHIMNEY SWEEPING

RELIABLE - TRUSTED - APPROVED

Rotasure ensures that your chimney, flues, and appliances are safe, and we follow the National Association Of Chimney Sweeps (N.A.C.S.) code of practice when conducting any work on your chimney, flues, or appliances.

We offer both traditional sweeping methods and the more modern rotary power chimney sweeping methods depending on your chimney construction. Our experience in flue cleaning is extensive and we guarantee a no mess, no fuss service, so you don't have to worry about anything. Once we have completed the chimney sweep, we will issue a certificate which is approved by all major home insurance companies to show that you have properly maintained your appliance and chimney.

If you have a stove then shut all air vents and flue dampers to reduce the chimney fire’s oxygen supply.

If you have a stove then shut all air vents and flue dampers to reduce the chimney fire’s oxygen supply.

Move flammable materials, furniture, ornaments away from the fireplace.

If you have an open fire then (as long as there is no risk to you) block the fireplace opening with something noncombustible.

Feel the chimney breast throughout the house – if it is getting hot then move furniture away from it.

Do not pour water on the fire if you have a stove.

Do not pour salt on the fire – this can create chlorine gas which is damaging to the chimney and toxic if it gets into the room.

Ensure that the fire brigade can access the loft space.

In severe cases where there is deemed to be a risk of the fire spreading to the roof use a hose to wet down the roof near the chimney but not the chimney itself.

WHAT COULD HAPPEN

WORSE SCENARIO

BLOCKING

Chimney deposits are intumescent, they can expand when heated, to the extent that they can block the chimney.

SPREAD

The chimney fire will seek oxygen from the nearest available source, usually the stove or fireplace, resulting in the fire coming out of the chimney’s bottom.

WEAKENED

In extreme cases, because of the pressures inside a blocked chimney, it is possible that the top courses of bricks can fall off when the integrity of the chimney top has already been compromised.

ROOF

It is possible for heat from a chimney fire to penetrate joists causing them to weaken through smouldering and then catch fire. Sparks and debris flying out of the chimney can also set fire to the roof if there are tiles missing.

WILL YOU MAKE A MESS?

This is probably the most frequently asked question.

The answer is most definately...NO!

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET MY

CHIMNEY SWEPT?

The frequency will depend on a number of factors including: Type of fuel, appliance used, frequency and duration of use, moisture content of wood fuel, type of chimney.

Depending on what your chimney is used for will ultimately give you the answer to this question. It is recommended that you sweep your chimney every quarter during the burning season for wood burning stoves while sweeping the chimney for smokeless coal and gas fires should be swept at least once a year.

In the event of a chimney fire your home insurance company will ask for proof that you have maintained your appliance and chimney regularly by using a registered chimney sweep. At Rotasure we are N.A.C.S. approved which is the industry gold standard. Therefore, you will have peace of mind knowing that the flue has been checked and your home is safe.
